Praying Hands - Prayers and Squares Prayer Group

Contact: Ruth Sowards or Anita Jennings
Time: Every other Thursday from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Place: Home of Ruth Sowards
Child care: No
Type: Women of all ages

Focus:
Unlike many other organizations that make quilts for charitable purposes, the focus of Prayers & Squares is NOT to make and distribute quilts, but to PROMOTE PRAYER through the use of quilts.

How it works:
Completed quilts are placed in the sanctuary during weekly worship service to allow church members to tie a knot with the heavy quilting threads while saying a silent prayer for the recipient. The quilt is given to the one for whom it was made as a physical manifestation of all our prayers, along with the added prayer that it will bring comfort and peace.

We became chapter 90 of the national Prayers & Squares organization in October of 2002. We have made quilts for sick babies, cancer and AIDS patients, and persons facing surgery or personal crisis - for many reasons, but each for someone in special need of prayer.

Commitments:
This group is a prayer group that just happens to quilt. The only commitment we ask of you is that you pray for the person you are making the quilt for. No experience needed. Come learn and pray with us!

Different ways you can help:
Pray for the person requesting prayer
Make quilt tops,
Assemble quilts
Help get the word out
Donate Fabric
Make a monetary donation for supplies
Arrange for and set up a quiet place of prayer to knot.
