It’s Time for Confirmation 2026-2027!
Confirmation is a special, set aside time when our youth are able to claim their baptism and faith as their own. They spend many weeks learning and discussing as a group what it means to be a Christian. As confirmands, they have the opportunity to become full voting members of the church and publicly profess their faith to the community. In a lot of ways, it’s the church’s equivalent to getting your driver’s license—it’s a rite of passage. Confirmation will be offered for youth 7th grade through high school.
We will meet Wednesday nights from 6:00 pm to 7:45 pm, beginning September 16. Pastor Tanya will lead the class, along with support from adult mentors, previous confirmands, and occasional guest leaders. We will arrange this session of Confirmation around 10 weeks in the fall and 10 weeks in the spring. We will take the busy holiday season off.
Confirmation covers the basics of Christian belief and thought. We like to ask lots of questions in Confirmation, here is a sample of our topics and questions:
The Bible: What do we do with discrepancies in the biblical text?
God: Why do bad things happen?
Jesus: How is this person relevant for me today?
The Holy Spirit: What exactly is it?
Resurrection: Did this really happen?
The church: The church has done harm in the last 2,000 years, what do we think about that? Do I need to agree with everything the United Methodist Church does today? & more!
It’s not all discussion either. There will be plenty of time for games and hanging out with your new friends. And, in 2027, we will visit other places of worship of different religions and welcome some guest speakers. Friends are welcome, even if their family doesn’t attend MUMC.
