hush: how quiet times feed faith

Scripture: Genesis 27:41-45, 28:10-17

Our world is relentless in messages, demands, and just incessant noise. There are times when we feel like the activity around—and within—us is so great that we can’t hear ourselves. We also can’t hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. That’s why quiet—moments of quiet and seasons of quiet—are so important to our faith.

Winter is a natural time of quiet. Less daylight hours means less movement. Cold means slower movement. The lull after the bustle of the holidays means time to reset. Our modern life, and our expectation of productivity, push us to ignore the call to slow down and listen, but we are built for times of quiet, rest, sabbath, stillness.

This week Pastor Meredith uses scripture from Genesis to remind us why quiet, small, alone, still times are so important for a vibrant faith. We will practice telling the incessant voices to hush, and in the hush, we will listen.
